This article just popped up on my feed.
Apple and Samsung are in the top 3 of the biggest mobile phone companies in the world, they are also a couple of the biggest companies in the world.
Apple put out a statement last week with big revenue guidance downgrades, now Samsung has also just put out an announcement that there will be big profit downgrades as well..
I don't believe mobile phones are suddenly going out of fashion, who here doesn't own or use a smartphone?
Is this just a secular story or something much bigger..?
Is it just an anomaly quarter or 2?
How and why could of profits fallen so much so quickly?
Keen to hear others thoughts on why this could be happening.

I agree with peejayhercules:
"(b) people will hold onto their smartphones longer (without any major drivers to change)"
This is also pretty much what the commentators were saying on Bloomberg as well. The market is getting saturated with smartphones so the growth is in upgrades and the upgrades are slowing because people don't feel the need to upgrade.
