The way forward is technology and that's it the need for Vanadium is growing and that's it and irrespective of price per pound when flow batteries are needed they will be produced and are being produced now with growth also. The Boom will go off for base materials associated with Batteries be it Vanadium or Li-ion its being mandated, pollution is choking the world capitals. Climate change is real and fossil fuels must be reduced. So far the only real movement is green cars but storage on a greater scale will come from flow batteries. There is a massive shift to natural energy from solar , wind and be it small tidal happening worldwide and the emphasis is on storage of these generated sources for further use another day.
As far as existing fossil fuel generation, the addition of the flow batteries to grid systems as peak & failure protection is assured also. Lets move a step further, where stored electrical energy is shipped globally from solar and wind farms and off loaded to other battery systems in need of a fill up similar to gas & oil tankers, but stored energy tankers where millions of stored megawatts are transported via battery tankers. This is where technology will take us, just like the first oil tankers & the first LNG tankers if its energy we will find away of doing it.
