Yes Pumped Hydro looks the goods for the future. On a bit of a tangent I could imagine the following scenario: There has been for years a scheme (Bradfield Scheme) for North Qld which proposed diverting westward excess river water which flows eastward to the sea. Imagine if a chain of dams were built west of the Great Divide and were associated with pumped hydro on the way, an amazing amount of power could be generated and new agricultural land could be irrigated and the water could eventually enter the Murray Darling system. Along the way, solar or wind farms could be used to pump the water. Maybe the power companies could join this one - a real nation builder.Just a bit of a dream!! Sorry about that. The PHES and pursuing mining around the giant pit are a real headache - which way to go? I guess the $$$ will guide the outcome.
