certainly have to agree with you regarding the regrettable US President, with or without his particular approah to China, but he has no bearing on China's expansionism. It commenced long before he arrived and will continue long afterwards. China doesn't require any reasons other than their own 'perfect' one: 'we have no plans for expansionism. How can we, when the territories already belong to us?' Say no more.
Their militaristic path cannot be considered outside an expansionism rubric. They are not defending themselves from foreign threat, at least in the eyes of the remainder of the world. But to them, they will attempt to recover what they believe belongs to them. We'll call it expansionism, they'll call it reclaiming sovereignty. The winner will determine who is right, or so it's said how history is written.
In my view, the sooner the world stands up to China the better. Ironically, a Trumpish type figure might be what's required, but hopefully one we can be proud of.
