    its a complex issue but an off market buy back like you are referring to only works where there  is a substantial value left in the company after the cash is taken out. The Giant Pit and the PHES ARE ONE OF CASH GERERATORS 

    Anyone not participating in the buy back would be crazy which of course leads to the cheapest and simplest option. Franked Special Dividends.
