CLH did this in 2015 when Lev was on the board; it absolutely brought forward earnings and is difficult to see comparatives when they do this, but the difference here is that CLH does the collections for Balbec earning CLH a fee in the process (and that is a side of the business Rivas is trying to grow.....the services side), and they claim they want to do this on a regular basis......i.e. sourcing PDLs for Asset Managers that have money and want an income stream from such assets.

In terms of the amortisation rate, it would be quite difficult to have different rates for diff PDL purchases; I suspect it's an art rather than a science given you have PDLs on the books for 5-10 years at least, the quality and price you pay varies, and the economic situation changes so all of that needs to be factored into a generic amortisation rate. I've seen some writeup done in the past that CCP PDL turnover and amortisation seems to have been higher than CLH and PNC, so Rivas increasing the amortisation rate can only be a good thing.
