”Now that legislation prohibits the sale or export of ore containing U” / BobbyKennedy
Now applicable Swedish legislation, including relevant regulations and regulations, has banned uranium mining and uranium extraction also as a by-product. Furthermore no limit or target value for the maximum approved uranium content have been determined in legislations / regulations.
In general, banning uranium extraction, even as a by-product, is a purely Swedish policy decision without considering a deep, detailed and comprehensive impact assessment. It also does not include the interpretation and application of, among other things, the Euratom Treaty on a future need for nuclear energy for Europe's energy supply. Nor has the EU's competence to act in different areas taken into account at the latest with the support of the Lisbon Treaty. Even though the EU today has no common minerals mining policy, this does not hinder the EU Commission the initiative. One such is, for example, the Raw Materials Initiative (EU Raw Materials Initiative) critical commodities, its importance for the EU's supply and its importance to the entire EU-economy.
mce-anchor It is known that uranium can occur in over 200 different minerals, including iron ores and common base metals such as aluminum, lead, copper, chrome, manganese, nickel, tin and zinc. Uranium is also found in other metallic elements that are important for batteries and electric cars. Some examples of these metals extracted from uranium-bearing mineralizations are cerium, dysprosium, graphite, praseodym, cadmium, potassium, cobalt, lanthanum, lithium, neodymium, nobelium, tantalum, terbium, vanadium and yttrium. In the case of energy metals, uranium and thorium may be used as uranium-bearing non-metals lignite and coal.
Magnetite-bearing pegmatite in iron ore deposits, Sweden, exhibits varying radiation, the uranium content varies between 1.2 to 454 ppm (average 39.8 ppm).
P.S. All concerned swedish mining companies sell or export their final products without extracting any uranium, as uranium mining and uranium extraction in Sweden was stopped in 1969.
