Your summary of WW1 isn’t right. It wasn’t about democracy or self determination at all - simply about 4 monarchies (British, German, Austro Hungarian and Russian) jockeying for position. Especially the Brits who were petrified of Germany muscling in on their empire and the trade that came from it.
With all respect to the bravery of all involved, it’s sad that so many Australians, Canadians, Indians and New Zealanders had to be dragged into it, and for what.
