tell stokes to nick off

The only daily week day newspaper we have in the West and this clown wants to turn it into a red top tabloid.

For those of you over east with a choice of daily's imagine being stuck with just the one which will resemble a New Idea if Stokes has his way.

Interesting on Media Watch last night Stokes was against Packers takeover of Fairfax Newspapers in '97 - Here's what he had to say on it (text courtesy of MW website):

Kerry Stokes: The more of us there are, the more differently we see things, the more choices there are. Democracy's a very fragile thing and it's well served by more viewpoints than fewer.

This guy already owns C7 - we don't want or need him owning our daily.

I suspect share price isn't the only motivation. He knows the West rubs this State Govt the wrong way by asking the hard questions they don't want asked. It's a given that Stokes will increase his friends in Govt and consequently his influence of Govt substantially if he get's hold of the West.

As Stokes himself said "Democracy is a very fragile thing"

Indeed it is.
