R most folk don't like encounters with grey suits, but several bumps and creases on my boards and bottom 1/3rd of my left Mares Quttro missing from a Galapogos are as close as it gets without broken skin, but they are all an awaking moment. Age is no barrier, but younger legs would have helped when a Sealion went for me in the NZ Catlins, a cranky one had no trouble chase me from the water and up the beach. I get to see a few Whites but they are more interested in whale calfs, and Bull & Tigers usually get within a few feet with a bit of a stalk first.
