the surface, along its perimeter
The familiar paradigm for thermogenic gas and oil generation suggests that, with increasing thermal maturity source rocks first generate oil and then generate thermogenic gas. In this case the oil and gas seeps with thermogenic signatures are thought to have originated in
deeply buried Cretaceous source rocks (ie late cretaceous broken river coal measures) and seeped to surface.
The anticline is just a large trapping structure.

5 ELEMENTS FOR A PROSPECT TO WORK

SOURCE ROCK- ie. shale or coal subjected to high pressure and temperature over an extended period of time, hydrocarbons form. (late creataceous broken river coal measures similar to taranki basin and south australia )

MIGRATION- The Hydrocarbons are expelled from source rock Most hydrocarbons migrate to the surface as OIL SEEPS, but some will get trapped. (high quality thermogenic oil and gas seeps C-1 to C-8) trapped????

TRAP - The hydrocarbons are buoyant and have to be trapped within a structure (e.g. ANTICLINE, fault block) or stratigraphic trap (15sqkm surface anticline structure)

SEAL OR CAP ROCK - The hydrocarbon trap has to be covered by an impermeable rock known as a seal or cap-rock in order to prevent hydrocarbons escaping to the surface.( deep siltstone confining layer which would trap oil and gas underground.)

RESERVOIR - The hydrocarbons are contained in a reservoir rock.(1000+ metre sedimentary section)

Ticks the boxes for a good prospect.

Oil and gas seepage with thermogenic signature is believed to come from the thermal maturing of the late creataceous broken rive coal measure source rocks
