I've now read through the posts of the last 24 hours, so hope I don't tirelessly repeat the valuable observations of so many who have attended the Brisbane and Sydney presentations. I do have some more details on some of those outstanding questions that BB helpfully compiled and on which he reported so fulsomely. Some of those have been reported by others above, so as I am short of time at the moment, I'll defer checking to which of those I can add substance or meaning. Instead, I'd like to make some more general observations, which may or may not be useful.
First, after studying the slides of the presentation promptly upon their release on Monday morning, and being impressed by their detail, I had wondered whether the presentation itself would have added more substance. Silly me! Of course it was fleshed out far more, not only by Jack Hamilton and Chris Parker in addressing the slides, but in responding to the many good questions from the floor. I was very satisfied with the afternoon.
My most significant observation? In Anteo's battery initiatives, it is not all about silicon! There is the potential to have Anteo Coat used in a range of new types of batteries. Some time back someone posted about carbon nanotubes, for example . . . and at the time, I saw that as potentially competitive to the use of Anteo's technology. Now I'm thinking that the technology may be applicable to a range of new developments in the field. This personal observation is reinforced somewhat by Jack's emphasis about how in business and technical discussions, one thing leads to another, one contact can introduce another . . . and the roles of Polaris and Custom Cells augmenting such cross-fertilisation of ideas.
Incidentally, the data packs which detailed the test results summarised in the slides, were sent out just a couple of weeks ago to two prospects - the Custom Cells reports had been received 18 July, I think, and the data packs prepared promptly - and the week following the dispatch of the data packs, one recipient was in touch the very next week, seeking discussions.
So I think that because Anteo's technology is working at the molecular level, there is every reason to imagine its applicability to a range of battery developments. There is every reason also to expect that one thing can lead to another. Most importantly, the technology can be introduced at the bottom level of development, and for all sorts of problem-solving. The slide "potential in battery manufacturing" provides an example of the latter.
The next observation? The locust years have not all been wasted, nor were all the fields laid bare. I am referring of course to the several years before DIAsource (I shall call that B.D), the years of BBI and Phillips, good old PoC2 and PoC1. For there was much development and learning in that time, and we see that in that next "wettability" slide, and again in the lateral flow immuno assay (LFIA) slides. My first lab visit was around 2011, I think, and now it seems how comparatively basic was development at that time. And was it about three years ago, when several of us were on a lab visit, and the scientists were all excited about this tidgy bit of litmus paper and something about lateral flow! Now look where it is today, in a real Ellume product that I think has just hit the NZ market, and aims for the 'flu season in the US this year.
Another observation now. We have at last a leadership team in the Board itself. Unified, compact, working together. Very pleased with both Jack and Chris. Both are the "sleeves rolled up" types. Both human - obviously encouraged by our support. And experienced. Jack is a pro-active Chairman; "ok, we're a small company, so we need to pitch in" is paraphrasing his explanation of their activity. Then we have Manuel Weiser leading the battery team, Charlie Huang the Point of Care, and Joe as the inventive and imaginative guru forging ahead with new IP, and protecting us along the way. (Incidentally, the picture of those three is just a generic one - not of our three guys, so don't look for those faces on your next lab visit.)
Two last comments: Jack is very conservative on information flows. Wants to publish substance (which obviously includes that which is deemed market sensitive), but certainly not to fill the void with Twittering. So don't expect quick updates on who is doing what. He said a decent announcement can take a couple of days of management time. I can believe that. I'm comfortable with the long silences, and I know not everyone is. Sure, I'd like to be peering quite often over the castle walls, but I can't; however, I am confident that the team knows what it is doing. If you're not comfortable with that, sell up and move on. That's your prerogative.
Finally, a general comment about the nature of some comments on HC. We all like to justify the decisions we make. I do exactly the same. I have invested quite solidly in Anteo, and am well under water like most of us. I have hung in there, and will continue to do so, and you could fairly say that what I write, that all of what I write, is to help me justify to myself that my decision is still ok. So, let's think about that, when we say why we wouldn't touch ADO with a bargepole until we see revenues (and the price is much higher), or when we say, as do I "buy now, while it is so cheap!"
