Orion, with the number of disasters that have occurred recently at both the state and federal level of our public health services I really do wonder at the experience and qualifications of many of the decision makers. Where do they get their qualifications from, the back of a cornflakes packet?
Here we have a test for TB, the skin test, which has been discredited by a large number of independent trials worldwide. It is proven to give large numbers of false positive tests and sadly these persons testing flasly positive most times then have to go on to a six month course of toxic drugs. Even worse many of these persons unnecessarily given these toxic drugs are young schoolkids as in this case.
Following previous approval of the new blood test by the Food and Drug Administration and the Centre of Disease Control in the US many cities and states there have switched over completely to the blood test. One example is the New York Health Department, now using the Cellestis QFTG blood test exclusively.
Yet our own NTAC, the national advisory committee for TB, still exclusively recommend the use of the skin test throughout public health services in Australia as the blood test is "unproven"
Cripes, what evidence do they need to bring them out of the dark cave they are obviously hiding in?
