@BobF, I share your belief that the company is close to finalising the MEMS production process and I agree that the announcements thus far support that view. It seems that the remaining issues are concerned with maximising the yield of working pixels and the current emphasis is on refining one or more of the final process stages.
As far as I know the company hasn't indicated how many pixels out of 1024 need to work before a chip can reasonably be declared to be functioning acceptably. I'll guess at 95%, but I could be wrong. Whatever the success yard stick, I am sure the efforts to improve the device will continue for a long time, even after the initial product launch. Very few things have been invented that can't be further improved. Perfection is a very elusive state.
For the benefit of newcomers to this discussion, we should remember that the company isn't just building a prototype of a digital loudspeaker, it is designing and proving the whole end to end mass-production process that can deliver huge volumes of working chips. The project has been going for many years and is now in its end stage.
Many of us thought the last announcement was overdue, but hopefully we will receive some more positive news before long. In the meantime, some of the pessimists here will continue to try to dampen our enthusiasm with their worst fears.
