It’s been almost 75 years since Caterpillar first came to Western Australia and there have been some incredible changes to the primary resources industry during this time.

In the beginning, we were an agricultural related company with thousands of square kilometres of the state’s massive wheat belt region utilising the very best in Cat farming equipment.

Shires, local government municipalities, covering areas of nearly 2.5 million square kilometres, were given the responsibility of building and maintaining the state’s seemingly endless network of roads.

Such massive task still requires the use of reliable and cost effective, specialised equipment, which Caterpillar still continues to develop and provide today.

When the mining industry, in particular gold and ore, began to boom in the 1960’s and 1970’s Caterpillar and the WA dealership were quick to respond to the challenge. An ever-increasing world demand for Western Australia’s vast mineral wealth has meant ongoing improvements to the size and performance of a whole new range of Caterpillar Equipment. From large wheel loaders, excavators and off highway dump trucks right down to Challenger tractors, WesTrac and Caterpillar have been at the forefront of design improvements and new innovations.

WesTrac management has recently been involved in planning an extensive expansion and development program to keep up with our customers growing demand. Located on the Great Eastern Highway in South Guildford, our head office recently expanded its premises to more than 18.5ha (43 acres). This extra space will allow us to keep abreast with all of the exciting new developments and challenges that come our way in years ahead.
