hard to disagree with most of this @whytee. But I do think there are certain things they would know about right now which it would be prudent and fair to report on to the owners of the business. Even a statement suggesting the original timelines were optimistic but that it is all still progressing, would be a worthwhile and honest statement to release. Honest and open communication is what most owners want.
"fact is running the company is far more time consuming and complicated than most investors understand" - not to be impolite but fact is you have no definitive knowledge on what most investors do or don't understand unless you have run some sort of comprehensive survey of most investors. It would be just as easy for me to say "fact is most board members of listed companies don't work hard enough to justify their pay packets" - an equally off the cuff and unsubstantiated opinion, imo.
