Asia Pacific Seamless Tubes Limited - APST

Boulder Steel is currently looking at developing a Seamless Tube plant in Queensland, Australia.

Background
The seamless steel tube market is strong and demand is expected to continue to grow at an average of 30% p.a. in Australia and in excess of 10% p.a. worldwide. Apparent world consumption in 2004 was 12% higher than in 2003 and continues to grow in 2006/2007.

The project will replace Austalia's imports of seamless tubes and supply the growing Pacific Rim market. There are currently no seamless tube producers in Australia.

Substantial benefits will be provided to both domestic and regional customers by significantly reducing their inventory and lead times for product delivery.

Location
The location in Ipswich, South-East Queensland offers good infrastructure, competitive scrap supplies and minimal transport costs to market, which will, among other things, result in the project being a low cost and efficient producer.

Volume
The Seamless Tube Plant will produce 400,000 tonnes of seamless steel tubes per year.

Capital
Capital costs to mechanical completion is in the order of US$500 million. Equipment will be sourced from Europe, Asia and Australia.

Time Line
Construction will commence Q1 2008 and commissioning is expected to begin in Mid 2010. Full capacity will be achieved in Mid 2011. more...
