    From my understanding the mallee trees are planted in strips which also act as wind breaks. The space between the strips is still used as croplands. Therefore these activites won't signifantly displace food production. There would probably also be cobenefits such as reduced salinity risks and erosion risks.

    My understanding is that planting mallee eucalypts on farmland requires between 300-400 mm of rainfall, less than that required from a conventional tree plantation.

    The COZ project is the only forestry project that counts as an offset under the Australian Government's "Greenhouse Friendly" scheme. It is therefore likely to be eligible for inclusion within an emissions trading scheme unlike some forestry offset projects which are less regulated and more suitable for personal carbon trading.
