@croasian
For me, the basic problem in this whole debate is that the very notion that the complexities of an individual can be broken down to "good guy"or "bad guy" is simplistic and fundamentally flawed. You keep proclaiming that we're all wrong (whoever the "we"is, I'm not sure) on the basis that we have claimed someone to be "good". Frankly, I'm not sure that that has been unanimously proclaimed. You and only you have decreed that that's where we stand.
The other flaw in this sort of debate is the notion that because someone is very wealthy they should automatically be held to higher standards than we would hold ourselves to.
Another flaw is the very notion that someone "giving away" their wealth after they die, is more noble than giving it away while one is still alive, especially when the living individual can be employing that wealth more productively (in an economic sense) while they are alive.
After all, Buffett's wealth is not about him having fists-full-of-dollars in his pockets, or idle yachts in the marina. In short, him having that wealth does not deprive someone else from having anything. What he has is ownership of deployed capital. In short, he owns a slice of the economy. If he "gave it away" - that slice would not disappear. It would still be there. The question is, would the country be better of with that slice under new stewards?
Another flaw is the notions that giving capital away is more noble than having it provide the dignity of employment (I'm not a right-wing zealot, but the point is a real one).
So rather than obvious gestures of of charity, I judge the character of a man/woman by whether or not he/she is drawn to the superficial, is greedy in terms of their own consumption, is vain, spiteful, warm, distant, seeks wisdom etc etc.
On these counts, yes, I like much about Buffett. But I will let a human be a human - and so don't expect a moral super being (whatever that is). I repeat I like much about him. Is he "good"or "bad" - I'll leave that question to others.
