Thanks - understand and appreciate the top part of your post. Did not explain myself very well. You are indeed correct with the first line in your second paragraph.
The second sentence of your third paragraph is the concept I am trying to implement based on the NPAT of the company. Just using the NPAT calc as the 'ruler' so that employees know how all this might happen. I'm a believer in honesty and transparency (make of that what you will on the internet!). Hoping it will be a significant driver for the business and motivator for staff moving forward.
