A simple change in battery chemistry to obtain a cost reduction or energy density gain could spell a serious problem for Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel and Graphite companies that are reliant on the lithium battery market.
Here comes the Magnesium battery, Magnesium is more abundant and cheaper than the costly process of refining Lithium host material into a suitable carbonate or hydroxide.
Magnesium batteries are at least a few years off but if a big battery manufacturer wanted to jump onto this new technology then it will be a big problem at some point in the future.
The new titanium / Magnesium batteries are already proving to have double the energy density compared with lithium ion type batteries.
