Short sellers are those people who think the sp will go down, and therefor they borrow shares from the brokers and sell on the market, hoping they can buy back at a lower price and make profits. If the price goes high, they will lose money. If the SP goes higher, they will lose their shorts and pants. Shorts are suitable for only those very experienced traders, so they will cover their shorts before losing their pants. Make sense?
