Eircom awarded €100m contract by the Northern Ireland Civil Service By Finfacts Team Sep 18, 2007, 17:23 Eircom today confirmed that the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) has awarded the Company the contract for the Network NI project. The contract which runs for 6-10 years, and is valued at up to €100m (£70m), will play a critical role in building a world class workplace infrastructure for Northern Ireland’s Civil Service that will enable transformational government in Northern Ireland. eircom was awarded the contract following a competitive and rigorous tender process. Eircom has designed a secure managed network, based on proven, open technical standards and services processes which will transform the way the Northern Ireland Civil Service work on a daily basis. eircom’s solution will support a wide range of voice, video and data applications with next generation capabilities, and will underpin critical change initiatives such as Workplace 2010, Account NI, Records NI, HR Connect and NI Direct. As part of the contract, eircom will provide services to all 11 Government Departments across Northern Ireland. As part of the contract win, Network NI will be serviced from eircom’s new state of the art Service Operations Centre in Belfast consisting of a Network Operating Centre and Service organisation that has been designed specifically to meet the particular requirements of Network NI. It is estimated that as a result of today’s announcement up to 40 new jobs will be created in Northern Ireland. eircom has established partnerships with key suppliers Fujitsu and Cable & Wireless to deliver this solution. Commenting on today’s announcement Pierre Danon, Chairman of eircom said, "eircom is delighted to provide a world class solution for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. eircom’s continued investment in Northern Ireland provides a platform for the future that will deliver flexible high bandwidth to the public service in Northern Ireland". Earlier this year, eircom announced plans to further develop its business presence in Northern Ireland and has initially invested €5 million in its network and service operations in the province. This investment includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art network operations centre in Belfast which will employ 15 people in high value roles, including network engineers, project managers and qualified service professionals.
