A couple more stories about Okehampton Bay, first one (newscorpse) is about a possible requirement for federal approval, i think they are getting a bit desperate, the other day they where complaining that the area wasn't deep enough, now they are concerned about the Whales and Kelp Forests.

The second ABC story is about a protester staging a sit-in in his boat, who should get some sympathy, it would be a good to see a Tassal boss go out and meet him as he asks for. The story also mentions a potential problem about freshwater access in the short term, and a desal barge, but apparently its already a normal thing, and i thought the fresh water for gill disease was only for when the fish where at a certain age, but im not sure.

The good news is that the ABC story says fish scheduled to go in pens next month.

"THE federal Environment and Energy Department is yet to decide whether Tassal’s Okehampton Bay salmon farm requires further assessment under federal environmental laws, despite a decision being due almost a month ago.
    ...
The East Coast’s endangered kelp forests are protected under the Act, as are southern right whales which migrate past the area."

"A Tasmanian fisherman has taken up residence in Okehampton Bay to protest against plans for salmon fish farming pens.
Flathead fisherman Chris Massie will spend the next two weeks on his boat staging a "peaceful sit-in" as the company goes ahead with plans to have fish in pens next month.
    ...
Tassal is aiming to have salmon in the water next month, but a planned dam at Buckland to supply the company with fresh water is still a long way off.
The ABC has obtained photos of a barge at a workshop in Margate believed to be used for desalination works, which are used in the fish farming process.
Environment Tasmania's Laura Kelly has called on Tassal to confirm if it will use a desalination plant at the site."
