In a similar vein to you, @lukelee, I recently asked a dentist friend about SDI products. His own 'high end' clinic is small (four dentists), private, not part of any group like Pacific Smiles, and charges fees well above the average rebate available from private health insurers, so perhaps is not the norm. He said they don't use any SDI products and source the bulk of their supplies from overseas where the quality is (supposedly) superior. However, he added that there are plenty of mid- & low-end clinics that do, and felt SDI products would probably be quite suitable for lower cost operators.
He said that he, and most clinics he knows of, no longer use Amalgam, though no real surprise there.
It does seem that extent to which SDI can bolster sales of new product lines and manage decline of Amalgam will be critical to their success.
