"Hvn will still find it very difficult to compete with many of the current successful online platforms without further upsetting their loyal franchisees

RODEROC, here's another great 100% Australian owned online shopping site giving even your dwi good digi camera competition> Will hvn be able to compete with even some of our own local online success stories? click here for example"

The above quote, made over 6 years ago, highlights the powerful tendency for the herd to get caught up in popular narratives and the human innate desire to say whatever fits the "trendy theme of the day".

Six years on, and how many of those retailers have developed sustsainable businesses? In fact, what has happened, by enlarge, is that established retailers have not only maintained their main street advantage, but they have also cornered the market for online domestic sales.

The notion that new competitors were going to conquer the retail waves, purely because they had a cost advantage, was as simplistic as it was naive. After all, in a sector where every new player had essentially one offering, and that was lower prices (ie, there is essentially no differentiation), and where barriers to entry are very low, the challenges to developing scale, to not only rise above their direct competitors, but also to challenge the old order, was always going to be monumental.

The new fashionable theme is "Amazon".
