imho, i expect great results from awb international, which should outweigh any earnings shortfall from AWB itself. this is a great year for agri-commodities, price-wise (FOB prices are rising - and that should bridge some of the gap in earnings); and i think awbi is well-positioned in key international markets (india, china, brazil, US) and that should be reflected in earnings as well.
re: growers v government - methinx its a variant of the telstra story, and look at TLS now....
not too many grain companies are going to be able to match awb / landmark's network in a hurry; heads (and deadwood ....?) have rolled at lonsdale street and the new CEO has impressive credentials. $6 is a real possibility, maybe even $6.50, but lets not get ahead of ourselves.
just my opinion, but what do i know?
