The attack that killed Turkish forces working with FSA (a stupid name as its really Turkish backed extremists with next to no Syrians and mostly former ISIS and Grey Wolves Turkmen) happened later in the day when the following happened.
1) When the Turkish forces used a massive amount of artillery support to protect their 'moderate' head choppers forces in Latakia from a new government offensive that kill a large amount SAA troops.
2) Followed by the Turks attacking joint Kurdish/SAA forces that had made strong gains towards Al-Bab in both directions taking territory from ISIS.
The open hostility in attacking Syrian Government forces and attacking the YPG Kurds in defiance to government statements to stop needed a strong response. No-one has yet to claim official responsibility for the attack but that hasn't stopped him continuing to shell SAA position in Lattakia further. I expect Russian diplomacy will attempt to put him back in his box.
The only thing mad ErDogan understands is power. He needs to have his Turkish forces to suffer more deaths till he gets the message to get out. Its possible to expect more direct air attacks, loss of Turkish aircraft and Kurds with more anti-tank weapons till he understands this.
There is now way NATO will support him in his foreign delusions, which could risk direct confrontation with Russia. The fact he is stupid to think he can playoff all side to get his aims long-term is a very poor strategy. The EU yesterday suspended Turkish aspirations with the old capital punishment chestnut and their is no way a Trump led US will support his Islamic terrorism and ottoman fantasy. The desperation of him going to Crimea this week (despite his funding of Tartars and Nazi battalions in the Ukraine) asking for S400, membership to SCO and general ass kissing towards Putin is devoid of reality. The Russians only co-operate with those that want to be reliable long-term partners (gas contracts, weapons sales, SCO membership etc). He is drowning and lashing out in desperation thinking he is a king-maker. Long-term the Turks will pay with blood and poverty for his stupidity. Don't think the Russians, Chinese and West will forget his long-term treachery and blackmail (refugees, killing and suppressing kurdish and opposition forces, pipelines, shooting a Russian plane, supporting turkman terrorism in Central Asia and China let alone Syria to name a few of his dumb goals). He is only supported by the general mob which will turn on him in a heartbeat when their children come home dead and there is no bread and circuses.
