Our tanks were in between my home and shedding, although next to the shed, had no trees within 40 meters, so not many leaves at all.
Could not really have a pipe running above to connect to tank, as exposed to sun and pipe deterioration and would look sh/thouse.
Underground, cool, protected except for having to clean every few months, .... nothing really, compared to looking after a swimming pool
I had 2x 5500 gallon tanks with pump house in between, a laundry, shower, bath, toilet shed/room at back of pump house.
I installed a fire fighting petrol pump in pump house and that pumped water from both or either 5500gl. tank to a 23,000 gallon tank 100m away on the side of our hill, about 30m head.
I made a T connection off the main high pressure line to home with a filter and was always clean when I checked now and then.
Best water ever, in clean concrete tanks.
Since '98 have lived in central Albury on half acre, now maybe too late to move again, as health problems, wife and I which we are working on atm.
