I had it in the small tank that pumps up into the main tank. The previous people hadn't cleaned out the basket very often so it had broken down and settled at the bottom of the tank as a fine residue. That small tank always ends up low because it's being pumped down so it always gets stirred up when the rain water pours down. Luckily it was small enough to clean it out with a hose by syphoning it out like a vacuum cleaner. There wasn't much there really but enough to smell when it got stirred up into a soup.

I still can't recall EVER having a problem with smell, taste or anything else with our rain water tanks.

The ones that were lined with chicken wire, then concrete, were just the best water.

The only water that I can remember being better was at Fairy Bower, or a 'spring',

coming out of the rocks, part way down Macquarie Pass.
