Lets seperate dick smiths figures.
-72 cents per 100g australian jam.
--28 cents per 100g aldi budget foreign jam.
-55 cents per 100 g aldi foreign premuim jam.
Main cost will b packaging ie material/labor costs.
Anyone in australian manufacturing understands we can't compete if product is labour intensive (eg packaging) and/or union controlled..
Imo our many farmers earn their money and imo clearly can charge a premium for their clean green produce, same our cattle indstry. But we can't afford to charge a premium for packaging .And of course who controls the head ie before the product can b sold, the unions ie canneries (one only spc left) and abattoirs (gl to the darwin aac abattoir) of course the auto assemblers left for same reason imo,ok maybe imo we had a chance to keep toyota. .
This control is destroying our agriculture and cattle industries.
Point being ,it is also destroying wow and wes from being competitive in selling australian jams, canned fruit etc compared to aldi's selling foreign jams etc because clearly the cost of canning our produce or butchering our meat makes these sectors less or uncompetitive.
