if Aldi enhances their store size and focus on "fresh", then the forecast 4% diminishing sales of Woolies, Coles and IGA are a "spanner in the works" .

the $100 plus shop that you elude to ,which i must admit i do at Coles or Woolies , is not without negotiation.
as i said before- i never thought Aldi were a threat before, as the 11 % sales was a constant.

now they really have a case for 15% plus.
this is scary stuff indeed, but sort of makes sense now.
the WES results of same store sales of Coles was in decline just recently, but the alarming thing is the WOW sales results did not take up the slack.

this is non discretionary retail, so the figures improve with population growth and can't be argued against.
in other words- the extra sales were going to the revamped IGA or Aldi.

ps- i think we have created the perfect storm here in OZ for our German friends.
at least WES has Bunnings i suppose.
