Not once did the Four Corners reporter take Frances Bender (Huon spokesperson and executive director) to task about her possible ulterior motives, their very poor environmental record, poor performance in MH to name but a few possible threads. Everything she said was taken as gospel. WWF said they hadn't been approached by Huon for accreditation and I believe them, not Frances Bender who's statements just don't stack up logically or scientifically. I don't believe a lying CEO who is desperate to save a drowning business by criticising their competitors, the senate inquiry, the WWF, ASC and anyone else that suits her purpose. Anyone who doesn't look beneath the surface of this poor reporting is very naive.
If you believe we should only be eating wild caught fish then you condemn the planet to the disaster that overfished waters is already bringing. If you believe Frances Bender's side of the story it's simple. Buy Huon. I'll stick to Tassal who have fully disclosed the effects of warming waters on their salmon stock, taken effective measures to ensure survival (unlike the other companies), diversified their market and continue to use scientific and environmental best practice in their operations. I also like the fact that they took steps to minimise the negative effect of this poorly researched story. That is management best practise.
