Numerous posters have said how hard and how long it will take WOW to turn its decline around. Tonight channel 9 news outlined how woolworths price war has not succeeded and is set to continue and deepen. They said WOW intend to squeeze suppliers harder but that lemon is dry and imo WOW will wear most of further discounting.
I haven't seen a recent survey but it wouldn't surprise if WOW is cheaper than Coles and IGA and not far behind Aldi. But Coles is in vogue and have a TV campaign far superior to any other fresh food retailer. I visited a Coles in Toowoong today and they have an in store pizza oven selling freshly baked pizzas at 2 for $12.
It seems Coles is now one step ahead of Woolies and how long it lasts is impossible to know but i suspect WOW are playing catch-up for at least 2 more years. Our Masters in Toowoomba is doing quite well esp with severe(25-40%) sector specials. Although again the profit margin on these huge discounts is hammered.
Woolies is household name and has outstanding locations... but I can't see earnings surging back to anywhere near the levels enjoyed 3 yrs ago. The brand is out of fashion and how it changes this trend is difficult to conceive. Better stks elsewhere imo with less risk, higher ROE and better div yields.
Can SP go under $20? Quite likely imo. Anyone buying at/around current level of $20.70?
