"So I am left to think its a negotiated contract"

JOEWOLF- you are an employer you should know these things. An award covers employees in a particular sector. A company also offer terms including a letter of offer of employment which would stipulate certain terms for employees.

" At a level of professional worker you would never persuade me to pay them on that basis"
Sure Joe, you may not want to, plenty of employers do, however anyone getting paid on a monthly basis AUSTRALIAN LAW states must be paid for that month in the middle of the month.
As an employer you should know these things, its part of your job to know them.
Otherwise an employee would be paid 6 weeks in arrears if paid in the middle of the next month

" It is neutral but not neutral in regard to to the company."
If its neutral its neutral JOE, you cant change the fact that 2-2 = 0.
It may be advantageous for a company to pay 2weekly but it is still neutral Joe whatever way you wish to look at it.

"What it would mean is that you have paid that person for work to be delivered at a future date. I would not have been happy with that as an employer as my risk is the person does not complete the work leaves or gets fired and i have to recover from someone."

Once again Joe, there are notice periods and terms to be adhered to to receive payment of wages. If an employee doesnt give sufficient notice he doesnt get paid and it would be calculated against any other entitlements he may have.

No wonder employers in this country dont have a god name joe, these are things you should be all over for the benefit of you and your employees.

"If its a negotiated contract then I am sure you can renegotiate and if I was a director I would have suggested pay everyone on a fortnightly basis rather than have paid in advance for work not yet performed."

I dont as i am not an employee Joe, however word has it that that is exactly what they are doing, they are bullying staff into the change and not paying their full year entitlements!!

"I cannot see this company committing an unfair labour practice."

How would you know Joe?? Word has it that is exactly what they are doing!!!

    Cheers
