It should be understood that we are not dealing with single sands. In this case 32.6 m oil sand most likely is the sum of many, maybe up to 20 or more separate individual sand levels, each separated by intraformational seals. In both Basker and Manta these sands extend down to tens of cms thickness, so in a way the total sand thickness depends on how thin an individual sand actually is before you stop counting it in. Which possibly explains the differences being quoted with the original discovery wells. Data for which incidentally are available from the Vic Gov offices since they are open file wells.
