Vodafone is banging its 4G war drums ever more loudly saying it is adding a hundred 4G base stations a month. It also still says it has the fastest network.
Vodafone Hutchinson Australia (VHA) says it is accelerating the pace of its 4G rollout, and is adding more than 100 new 4G sites across the country every month.
CTO Benoit Hanssen says VHA expects to increase this to 300 a month later in the year, and continued the company’s claims of having the fastest 4G network.”We already know Vodafone has the fastest 4G download speeds in Sydney and Melbourne.
”But independent OOKLA speedtest results show we are now number one for speed in Brisbane and Perth,” said Hanssen. “Mobile data is fast overtaking fixed broadband connections at home as the preferred way to access the Internet.
“Vodafone’s 4G network is now offering faster downloads speeds on average than fixed ADSL connections at home.
“People who have yet to try 4G and are used to using broadband mostly at home will be surprised at just how fast 4G data can be. It’s the ultimate browsing experience for smartphones and tablets,” said Hanssen.
As data speeds increase, so too does the number of customers accessing mobile data. Hansen quoted recent Cisco research which showed that mobile video traffic already accounts for 53% of all global data traffic.
“To match customers’ increasing appetite for mobile data, Vodafone has again launched its Double Data offer for new and existing customers so they can fully enjoy Vodafone’s 4G network,” said Hanssen.
“Customers joining or upgrading their current plans to a 12 or 24 month $65 Vodafone Red Plan and above before 29 April 2014 will receive double the amount of data for the life of their contracts.
