ironjack I feel for you having "been there done that" more often than I like to admit but while I cannot totally agree with your sentiment respective to sheeting home all the blame to yourself.
As you correctly say the ultimate decision is yours and that decision is based on analysing many facets and drawing a conclusion. However if any of those facets have been contrived, manipulated, or intentionally misleading [I am not saying that is the case here, just that you have to use the information on hand] then your decision process is immediately flawed through NO fault of your own.
Certainly if nothing was untoward then you must and should bear the brunt but to dismiss the possibility of misinformation affecting your investment decisions and outcomes is to give far too much leniency and freedom to those you expect the highest moral conduct from. If there were no consequences for their actions there would be a free for all.
You may not have necessarily bought as a result of the information available but it may be that it changed a decision to sell, or made you feel more comfortable holding. These are still investment decisions.
Don't arbitrarily decide whether anyone is culpable other than yourself. If there is a belief that it could be so then let the courts decide. That is why Directors insure themselves, and why Courts exist.
