Apologies, they pay the taxi networks and not the drivers. Still, it is quite excessive to say there is no incentive for taxi drivers to use cab charge . It is a hassle free system that works and they don't pay a cent for it because the customer pays the fees. There are alternative payment systems that have existed for years and are/were cheaper than cab charge. If they haven't changed for years then why would they change now?

They didn't regulate the charges cabcharge can charge in Melbourne because taxi drivers were super keen to transfer over to cheaper services. They did it because taxi drivers don't care what the customer gets charged.

Don't forget that in a industry where fees don't matter the key to market share is typically dictated by other factors such as service levels and fraud prevention.
