Vodafone opens door to Hobart ops centre Vodafone has launched its new contact centre in Hobart, progressing in its goal to bring its primary customer service channel back to Australia.

The centre, which was announced by Vodafone last March, will bring up to 750 jobs to Hobart. The telco has currently employed over 100 staff for the new centre, with an eye to employ up to an extra 200 employees in January.

The telco’s move to relocate its primary customer service operation from India to Hobart has come as a result of significant investment from both the federal and state governments.

Canberra tipped in as much as $4 million for recruitment, training and accommodation purposes. Meanwhile, Tasmanian government provided up to $850,000 to help subsidise infrastructure costs. It also is offering payroll tax concessions for new employees.

The latest site will be used as a temporary facility until a brand-new centre is completed in the second half of 2014.
