I have had similar views to yours re; Gemco's involvement.
A wild card scenario:
NTM have a trading halt in play with no real signal as to what it involves. Could Gemco in fact be poised for a bid of NTM which would give them access to the one remaining lease they don't currently hold around Groote. It would be a nice fit and when the NT Govt changes it's mind down the track that it's now OK to mine the seabed Gemco is sitting pretty.
A T/over of NTM might also result in the compensation claim being dropped. It's a win/win/win scenario
NT Govt off the hook, Gemco gets it's one remaining lease and NTM (and its shareholders hopefully) walk away with a fistful of dollars
