You can only guess the pipe is widening at depth. With one deep hole, you don't really know for sure.
BUT....given it appears to be mineralized all the way down to, let's say, 1 km, I would use the analogy of throwing a dart at a dart board from 20 feet. You have a reasonable chance of hitting the board itself at this distance (because it's fairly wide) but a very little chance of hitting the bullseye (because it's so narrow). So, logic tells me that at almost a km down hole, we've hit the (wide) dartboard, and only a slim chance that we've nailed the bullseye.
Does this make sense?
