Got a phone call from AMU last week looking for my votes. They said they had enough votes to get the deal through. But the latest announcement looks like they didn't- which is good.
I told them they should just run their existing assets and return surplus cash to shareholders when available. They said that that wasn't going to result in growth. My reply was that I didn't care about growth as long as there was a decent rate of return to shareholders from the existing assets. When I asked why if it was such a great deal the shareprice didn't rise on the announcement, they said that there was an overhang of stock because a large shareholder couldn't continue to hold the stock after the merger.
I also said if the Lonestar assets were so good, lets have an IPO with a prospectus and they can offer it to AMU shareholders to assess and takeup on its own merits rather that being forced to sign up. The Company representative didn't agree with that idea but could offer a reason why that was not better for AMU shareholders.
Hopefully if we all keep complaining then Lonestar will be sent packing.
